after hearing what the detailers use on several of the boards. Some product called ONR kept coming up frequently in the discussions.
The proper name is Optimum No Rinse Wash and Shine.
I suppose one reason that it's popular is since it doesn't require a rinse, it can be used in water restricted areas. The detailers premix the stuff and take it to the job site. But it's not only convenient, but a very good wash soap.
I googled for it, bought some from a generic car supply store on Amazon. I don't know if you can buy the stuff in a local brick and mortar store or not. Was a bit expensive, about $20 including shipping for a 32 oz bottle.
It works well. Better than I expected. It cuts your wash time easily in half, but you do need to dry sections with a chamois after washing. I normally dry off the car anyway after a regular wash. Shines up nicely and without any residue. You don't need much of the stuff either.
I'd recommend it for cars that are garaged often and taken out for weekend drives. It did well on random tree sap, bugs and tar.
It doesn't sud up like a traditional car wash soap, so I'm not sure I could recommend it for a muddy car or a daily driver. You may need a second wash.
You can also mix it in a diluted concentration and use it for a detailing spray.
