Hey guys!

I have accepted a new position in Charlotte and I'm starting April 15th.  I will be fully relocating as soon as my house sells.  I look forward to being more local for the meets and living in civilization!

Well, you already accomplished one miracle by getting a job these days!  I have no doubt your house will sell fast as well.  Congrats!   occasion14

Congrats Bob! Are you still doing the grad school thing too? Whereabouts in Charlotte are you moving to?

Yeah, I am still doing the grad school thing at Wake Forest in Charlotte so it makes a lot more sense to be there.  I will probably move to somewhere in the Ballantyne area since my job is in southwest Charlotte.  I might consider moving to Ft. Mill, SC too to save on taxes.  I am just trying to weigh the options between increased desirability and appreciation potential of the Charlotte address versus reduced tax burden in SC.

Having vehicles registered in SC should also be less of a hassle with emissions & inspections.

Yeah, no inspection is definitely a plus.

Yeah, really, congrats on the new job.  Quite an accomplishment in this economy.

My vote is for SC.  Check out the difference in property tax rates.  I think that will make up your mind for you!

I am just trying to weigh the options between increased desirability and appreciation potential of the Charlotte address versus reduced tax burden in SC.

Just got back from Berlin and have seen this - Congrats Bob!

Don't count Fort Mill out for appreciation potential.  We have a house just one mile over the border and prices seem to be holding up very well here.  Essentially you are buying into an area that is not fully developed yet (think start-up company), so one could argue that there is more room for increase here than in South Charlotte.

You could also consider; Tega Cay or Baxter, if you wanted areas just south of the border, that hold values well.

Some already pointed out, but
- 50% less property taxes
- no vehicle inspection - I have not CAT on my car!!!
- more house/land for your money
- no helmets on motorbikes!!
- FIREWORKS!!!

One of my staff lives in Fort Mill adn commutes to Columbia a few times a week when I need her in the office (she telecommutes).

Her S.O. works in Charlotte.  They like the arrangement for all reasons listed above.
