We had this contest in the Florida Lotus club...how many pistons do you own?  Air compressors don't count - they need to be used to power a vehicle so technically, a steam train would count, but a compressor would not.  Spouse's pistons do count, but not girlfriends', parents', or childrens' (unless your kid's car's title is in your name).  As you're guessing by now, yes, there were some pretty significant disagreements over the rules.

Here's my count:
CL: 6
TL: 6
Integra: 4
Lotus: 4
Lawn Tractor: 2
Weed Eater: 1
Chainsaw: 1
Minibike: 1
RC Airplane: 1

Total: 26.  Too bad I sold the generator.  I know somebody on here has to have me beat.

The boat works out at 2x8 (motors - twin 496ci big blocks) + 6 (generator - 7.3 KW) + 4 (outboard for dinghy - 4 HP)

Jeez, what a bunch of cheaters  bat  I want to see each of you riding your weed eater, chain saw, pressure washer or generator.  The RULES  evil5 say "they need to be used to power a vehicle..."  The definition of VEHICLE is    [vee-i-kuhl or, sometimes, vee-hi-] –noun 1. any means in or by which someone travels or something is carried or conveyed; a means of conveyance or transport: a motor vehicle; space vehicles.
2. a conveyance moving on wheels, runners, tracks, or the like, as a cart, sled, automobile, or tractor.   :devilish

I have:
Lotus 4
Corvette 8
Silverado 8
Harley Streetglide 2
Harley Lowrider 2
Polaris ATV 2
Toro ZRT 2
TOTAL 28

Dave has been adjusted by 2 for deletion of weed eater and chainsaw - 24 (RC plane... really  naughty )
Russ has been adjusted by 8 for deletion of weed eater, pressure washer and generator - 38
Chris has been adjusted by 3 for deletion of weed eater, chainsaw and pressure washer - 17

fair enough...  Although I could make a case for the generator providing power to run the electric batteries on the small dinghy  :devilish Not only that, but I do ride on it - I stand above it when at the helm of the boat Smiley

I'm starting to have flashbacks to the flame war we had in Florida during this "contest."  My statement of the rules was infact incorrect - or at least wrongly explained.  The pistons must be powered by internal combustion or, in the example of a train, be used to power a vehicle.  So, either the engine needs to go "bang" with variations on suck and blow, or must be used to push a vehicle via a reaction caused by a self sustaining source of heat.  Unless any of us own a steam train, we can simplify the rules to state that they must be used for the purposes of internal combustion only.

Well, technically, he did just say # of pistons, nothing about them being in a vehicle.  laughing4

Hmmm.. you might be on to something there.  I guess I can include the complete set of (6) RSR pistons I have sitting on the work bench!  According to post number 1, I do "own" them and they do "power a vehicle" so add 6 to my total.  That gives me 34 total.

Oh my god, it's all happening again.  I shouldn't have ever started this!

I'd say that they would not count as they would be considered redundant.  They're intended to replace or upgrade pistons (and cannot actively power a vehicle), which is why the contest originally counted cylinders, but due to reasons I won't even bring up for fear of sparking another debate, it was decided to count pistons.

The next question, "Well, Dave, what if I have a broken down car with pistons that cannot actively power a vehicle...do they count?"  Yes, as they can power a vehicle - the question being a state of repair, not state of being.

 scared or excited

How about let's just give the trophy to Russ.   clapping

Let me think of our next contest...how about "how many wheels do you own?"  Good thing I have two pairs of rollerblades Smiley  How about "how many headlights do you own?"  Does a flashlight taped to the front of my minibike count?   thumbsup
