I am stuck on which route to go for an intake mod and wondered what your experience/advice is.
Option 1: Remove snorkel and fit Green Filter. Cost ~$70 incl. shipping.
Option 2: Install ITG-type intake. Cost ~$450, but could pick up a used one for ~ $300
Considerations: - I like a nice sound, but don't want to be too over-the-top - I would love to get out more, but realistically I will probably do a couple of days at Kershaw and one at VIR or Road Atlanta in any given year - Cost is always an issue, but in this case the least important.
Any thoughts?

I removed the snorkel and replaced with a Green Filter as well as installed a Stage II exhaust. You can really hear the intake with the snorkel delete/Green Filter combo, even at idle.
From what I understand the ECU will negate any short term gains you may get from an intake.
Plus, you don't have to worry about throwing any CEL's with the Snorkel Delete and Green Filter!

CEL's Forgot about that risk. Since I'm still in the warranty period I guess the de-snorkel/Green Filter is the way to go. Well that's next weeks job Thanks!

I just did my de-snorkel (finally) today. The car sounds a little louder at WOT now.
I couldn't believe how dirty my air filter was. It was completely covered in dirt and leaves. It seems like I need to change the filter about every 5k miles with the Elise.

Same with me. I took the snorkel off and replaced the filter about 400 miles after my 7500 mile service and I couldn't believe the junk in there. Apparently with the snorkel off it shouldn't pick up so much junk. I'm going to take a look in a few more miles and see if that's true. Enjoy!

Kind of interesting to see what kind of mod the elise folks use. On the V8 Esprits, it's generally a change to K&N filters, a ram air mod to the intake, and an exhaust upgrade that are the first things we do. That alone can be worth 30-40 hp. After that, a chip change is can be good for another 75-100hp and intercoolers, blow off valves, etc can give you another 25 or so. When mine is in full till trim, 450-500 hp is not too hard to accomplish. The only problem then is the fact that the tranny becomes the weak point. Obviously on cars as light as the elige, 10 hp makes much more of a difference than on the Esprit.

Removing the snorkel is a zero HP mod, but it sounds faster It must be nice to get significant HP gains for your mods on an Esprit. That doesn't happen on the naturally aspirated Elise. I'm even envious of the stuff that is out there for the MINI.

Lotus is introducing a super charged Elise this year!!! I'm just waiting to see how it performs. It will be Eaton style as opposed to the Roots style on the Exige. That means it will fit under the "bonnet" without any modifications

I saw the Elise SC at the VIR event. Lotus of Durham had one on display. Unfortunately they were not offering test drives.

With the Elise DeSnorkeled, you'll notice your air filter will stay a lot cleaner. The snorkel is like a vacuum cleaner for dirt, rocks, leaves, etc....

That's what I hear. I am looking forward to it.

BTW, I have an unused intake system for the Elise. I originally bought it about the same time I got my car, and decided not to monkey around with the engine while it was under warranty. It's a well-built system with quality parts that was designed by a popular tuner on EliseTalk/LotusTalk.
I'll let it go for $200. PM or email me prior to the Gathering if someone wants the intake and is planning to attend. Else I won't pack it.
