I would like to try to squeeze a mountain drive before it gets too cold.  Since Eurofest is this weekend, I figured I'd shoot for next weekend.  I would like to drive up 226A to Little Switzerland, have lunch there, then take the Parkway and 221 (the fun twisty part between Linville and Blowing Rock) over to Blowing Rock.  From there, maybe head down 321 and hit up 268.  I did most of this drive a couple weeks ago and it was a really nice loop.  Let me know if you're interested.  I'll be going as long as it's not pouring rain.

I'd love to go, but we are heading to the mountains in TN for the weekend.

I'm in....

...where should we meet?

I'll wait and see who's going and we can pick a spot that works best for everyone.  I have used the Conover Walmart off of I-40 exit 132 in the past, but that's mainly out of selfishness because it's like a mile from my house.

Hey Bob.  Great route you have picked out.  It's one of my favorites.  Unfortunately I've already made plans for the 25th or I would be all over it.

Same here, and it looks like there's a 70% chance of rain.  We definitely need to do another fun driving event soon, but the calendar is pretty full.

We went up to the Blue Ridge Parkway this past weekend and looped from 421 South to Grandfather Mountain.  Most of the trees were already past peak above 3000'.  I have to believe 221 exists only for people to have fun driving since it is more out of the way and slower than the Parkway.

Yeah, I may try to reschedule if the rain looks likely.  That section of 221 is great.  I took my MINI through there a couple months ago and had fun driving it at the limit through a lot of the corners.  I even turned around and ran it again Smiley

Getting a little ahead of the game here, but what about Saturday, Nov 15?

Seems like the chance of rain is going down for Saturday.  60% in Hickory....40% in Boone.

Hope it either hurries up and rains this week or holds off till Sunday/Monday.

Still a pretty good chance of rain on Friday though and that makes for wet roads on Saturday.  Nothing worse than finding one of those in the middle of a turn.  I would rather explore the polar moment of inertia at the track than in the middle of 220!!  Shocked

I would be open to that.  It will be hard top season for sure by then, but the good thing is the leave peepers will be completely gone.
