Can anyone recommend a good shop in the Charlotte or Hickory area to flush the brake and clutch fluid on the Elise?  I'd like to get this done before the VIR event and I don't really have the equipment to do it myself.  I would prefer not to drive all the way to Durham to have it done.

Thanks.

I *HIGHLY* recommend Automotive International. I've had work done there and they are incredible to deal with. They work on nothing but high end cars, Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Lambo, etc. and can do anything from an oil change to a full resto - like the Lotus Elan they are putting the finishing touches on. They managed to turn my car around in 3 days when the alternator went south. Ask for Jarod Brown, one of the owners. Tell them Russ with the Esprit sent you  Smiley

Try Dennis Oltoff's Superformance  shop in Salisbury.  They are good if they vhave time to see you.  I previously owned a Superformance S-1 (Lotus 7 replica) that they maintained.

Hey Talon, how about a sticky somewhere with recommended shops and services.  I had Porsches for so long, I knew exactly where to go and where to avoid.  I don't have a clue where to take the Lotus and dealerships aren't usually my first choice.

For anyone in the Triad, Foriegn Accents on Market St. in Greensboro.  I know them pretty well and trust the work.  They previously worked on an older model than mine.  They've got some of the best techs in the area and work on a lot of higher end imports.  So far I've had them do a coolant system flush, replace an output shaft seal, change a foglight & a high beam, and it's in the shop today to have new tires mounted and get an inspection.  Thier phone # is 336-294-2137.  Ask for Mike Moriarty, the service writer.  If he's not there, either Scott or Randy. (co-owners)  Tell them I refered you and they should treat you right.---Steve

I ended up doing the brake and clutch fluid flush today at home.  I ordered a pressure bleeder online and used it to do the job.  I managed to do it without removing the wheels, which really reduced the amount of time it takes to do it.  It was the first time I have done this on my Elise and the brake pedal was noticeably firmer after the flush was complete.  It was really a lot easier than the long tutorial on L-talk makes it seem and the results were great.  It was a little messy, but it was satisfying to do it myself for less than the cost of the gas to drive to Durham.  I would highly recommend this for any Elise owners suffering from a slighly soggy pedal.

I also installed an ipod adapter, which really improved the sound quality in the car a lot.  The factory system still isn't great, but maybe have moved up a notch from poor to minimally acceptable Smiley

Very impressed!  How long did it take for the brake and fluid flush?

I consider the ipod adapter a necessity (sp?), not much CD storage room!

It took about an hour to do the flush for the brakes and the clutch.  I saved a lot of time by not removing the wheels.  This does make it a little messier to do the job, but I think it was worth it.  If anyone with an Elise wants to attempt this, I'd be happy to walk you through it and/or lend you my pressure bleeder.

The iPod adapter inspired me to order some new speakers, so I'll be doing that installation soon.

I'd love to do this on my Exige.  Perhaps we could have a tech day sometime?

A tech day sounds good to me.  I'll be happy to share what limited knowledge I have.

Sorry I'm late spotting this, but i did it on my 2006 Elise late last fall. when i changed the brake pads over to Pagid Blues.  The pressure bleeder made it very easy.  The $100 I spent easily paid for the dealer labor, and now i have it for the future!  I agree that the job is much less intimidating than the Sands Museum / Lotus Talk folks make it sound.  Smiley
