Jsut got off the phone with them. The last of the parts should arrive tomorrow AM. With any luck I'll have the car back next week

well - turns out it is not the head gasket There is an aluminum casting that bolts between the front of the block and the waterpump. The gasket behind the casting is shot. It took some detective work as the leak is right at the head gasket seam. On the downside, the clutch is at less than 10%, so it needs to get changed as well.

Hey Steve - did you do your clutch when it was out? If so, did you go stock or upgrade? How much $$ did you end up burning?

I did do the clutch. $2200 for the assembly. It comes new, no upgrade. The flywheel, if it's bad, is an additional $975. If you can float the dough now, you can probably get away without a flywheel since it's not down to the rivits yet. JAE was the only place I could get the stuff........

That sounds about right. AI are quoting me $2600 for the clutch and resurface of the flywheel including labor.

K, the motor is hopefully going back in tomorrow afternoon. They are waiting on new halfshaft seals to arrive so they can change those as well and then they can start to button everything up. With any luck, I'll get it early next week.
I went and saw te car on Monday. The motor is an AMAZING piece of engineering. You really can't get an idea of how compact the packaging is until you see the motor out of the car. Simply amazing.

Well, the motor didn't go in as expected as there was a delay waiting on parts to arrive. It's all buttoned back up now and ready to go in. They have already detailed the engine compartment and will be cleaning the transmission up this morning, then shoving the whole lot back in the car this afternoon.

That's a pretty expensive hunk of aluminum on that flimsy little dolly!
Didn't you say you're upgrading your exhaust system too?

That was the original plan, but it's going to have to wait now. The B service has grown into a pretty comprehensive overhaul, upgrade, and preventative maintenance job. It should go like a bat out of hell when I get it back.

Note the Roller in the background - they had quite a selection of cars in there yesterday (and that is saying something for this shop!). I counted 5 Rollers/Bentleys of various vintages, 2 Vipers, 6 Ferrari's, 3 Esprits including mine, a Lotus Elan, and 2 Alfa's - one of which was a Callaway conversion.

Well, I won't get it back today, but I'm damn close. The motor is back in and they are getting it started today. they expect a couple days of shakedown and then I can have her back...
