I'm going to head up to Hanging Rock this weekend with the Lotus.  The weather appears to be rain-free, but cloudy on both days so I'm leaning towards Saturday.  The lake at the top of the mountain makes for a great photo-op and the roads on the way offer some great curves.

For those unfamiliar with the park, it is about 45 minutes North East of Winston Salem.  The park has some great hiking and a LOT of parking.  The immediate view is not as great as Pilot Mountain, but the view from the Hanging Rock (about an hour hike) is fantastic if you're interested.  The lake is closed now, but in the summer is great for swimming and canoeing.  There are also some great waterfalls which are fun for climbing (my wife thinks I'm actually a 5-year old sometimes).

If anybody wants to join, let me know.

I go up to Hanging Rock almost every weekend to exercise my puppy.  Here are a few pictures from last weekend... http://triadcorvetteclub.com/Burple_X/Photos/Deacon/HRFeb16/WolfRock.html These were taken from Wolf Rock.  It's about a 1.5 mile hike.  Here are a few from Hanging Rock... http://triadcorvetteclub.com/Burple_X/Photos/Deacon/HRFeb09/HangingRock.html  It is a .9 mile hike up to the rock.  These distances sound short, but the incline is pretty steep in places.  We hiked to Wolf Rock and back in about 2.5 hours and I spent a good bit of time taking pictures.  There were about a dozen huge hawks flying around Wolf Rock, including one guy just perched in a tree.  He watched us but never moved.  I guess he knew I wasn't coming up that dead tree after him!

I'm in if you decide to go.

Sounds fun, and I'm in if you decide to go.  Just say when.  i'll be coming from Winston, if folks nearby want to meet before the drive up.

LOL, sounds fine with me.  Why don't we meet in Winston-Salem around noon Saturday and drive up together?  I live in Midway off Highway 52 so I'll be heading straight up from Davidson County.  Any suggestions for a meeting point?

As Burple mentioned, the hiking is great in the park.  My wife and I are planning on doing one of the trails Saturday.  We usually stick to the waterfalls if it's cold.  We've never done Wolf Rock...if it is warm enough we'd be up for checking that out.

There is a Sheetz on Hwy 158 near Walkertown (corner of Hwy 158/Reidsville Road and Hwy 66/Old Hollow Road.  That is pretty easy to find for everyone.  We can meet in the shopping center parking lot behind the Sheetz.  If you want to meet and have lunch, we can go to Walnut Cove to Sam's Pizza or we can drive a little further to Dan River Cafe.  Of if you just want to grab a sandwich and go, we can stop at the Dan River General Store.  There is a little (and I mean "little") restaruant there.  I usually stop there on Saturday mornings and pick up a biscuit and some orange juice before I head on up to Hanging Rock.

Are you guys really going to hike or am I going to have to get up at 0:dark thirty to walk the dog then drive back up with you guy later?  Shocked

I'd be down with the cafe for a bite to eat at noon.  Can you post some simple directions?  No GPS in the Esprit.

I already have plans for Saturday otherwise I'd be up for this as well.  My girlfriend and I always enjoy a good drive and hike.

Dave from Hwy 52, you will exit at I-40 East Business/Hwy 421 North and head east then take the Reidsville Road/Hwy 158 exit (less than a mile).  The exit will only take you one way, so you can't mess up.  The Old Hollow/Hwy 66 intersection is probably 4 miles or so down the road.  You'll see the Sheetz gas station on your right.  We can meet in the parking lot behind the Sheetz.

Are you familiar with Belews Creek Road?  It's a nice drive with not much traffic on it.

Guys, the weather isn't looking that great on Saturday and the streets will probably be wet.  Should we switch to Sunday instead?  The forecast looks sunny and dry.

Just making sure we're on for Saturday (i.e. tomorrow) at noon at the Sheetz off Hwy 158. Smiley
