technically not a performance mod, but we don't have a heading for appearance.  Russ, it took about 1/2 hour.  I got a slightly confused when the little part of the armrest wouldn't come off.  The leather had basically fused between the armrest pieces and I didn't want to yank on the thing.

1: remove the 2 screws between the fuel door button and the instrument panel dimmer.
2: remove the black plug between the two above.
3.  pull up on the small armrest piece that goes above the switches in step 1&2 (it might seem like something else is holding it on, this is where I was stuck for a while, you might have to wiggle it)
4: remove 2 nuts holding the gearshift panel down.
5: lift up gearshift panel and untie stickshift boot.
6: pull boot over old shift ball.
7: remove inner boot around stick. (mine was ripped, so I didn't remove it, just worked around it.
8: there is a 13mm bolt on the right hand side of the stick, take it out.
9: remove stick.
10: find a rubber mallet.  take a screwdriver and brace it against the ball where it meets the skirt.  beat on it. turn it over beat on it again.
11: it should come off after a few good wacks.  position the new knob on the shaft.
12: place the shaft with the ball down on your carpet (so you don't ding it or scratch it) drive the end of the shaft onto it with the rubber mallet.
13: use crazy glue to secure the Lotus emblem.  I didn't and when I drove it last night it came off.  Hopefully it's still in the car.  That damn thing was about $25 if I remember correctly.
14:buy Steve a beer at the next CLOC for giving such detailed directions!!! pint

K - gimme the step by step on it man  dontknow

Step 1.
Grab the leather fused between the armrest pieces and yank on the thing...
Step 2.
Swear profusely when it tears...
Step 3.
Since it is now torn to shreads, grad a large screw driver to use as a pry bar...
Step 4.
Swear some more, then get the hammer out
Step 5.
Throw all the parts in a box and drive to your local exotic garage... don't forget your check book!
Step 6.
Read the instructions provided with the parts to see what you should have done  evil5

You should know better; It's a Lotus part, so it didn't come with directions and even if it did, they would be in Chinese and for the wrong part.

But apparently I AM good enough to get the new knob installed. Took about 45 minutes and the only problem I had was getting the shirter aligned when I reinstalled it.

Yep, now it's just a matter of cleaning up the interior and the car should be about ready for the show this weekend. thumbsup
